Marnie Oakley, D.M.D.
Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine & Senior Consultant for AAL
Dr. Oakley serves as the Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. In addition, she is a Senior Consultant for AAL and works extensively in the areas of clinical teaching, preceptorship, and leadership development. She served an active duty 4-year tour as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy. In her experience as a clinical teacher for over two decades, she has been responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive care clinical curriculum that is focused on student learning, assessment, and patient care outcomes. Dr. Oakley has also developed and implemented formalized marketing plans targeted on improving clinical operations.
She works together with university development and human resource teams to strategically create and actualize reorganization plans that promote workflow efficiencies in the clinical environment. She has had experience serving as a schoolwide site visit coordinator for a Commission on Dental Accreditation site visit and, in turn, understands what is required to build a quality management and improvement plan that measures school-specific
standards of care. In her 6 years serving as a department chair and her 7 years as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, has taken great pride in recognizing human talent and applying strengths of employees to maximize efficiency and success in support of a strategic vision and plan. She continuously inspires a robust customer service approach to empower employees to serve their customers across all fronts in dental education.
