Support for Your Career

Clinical teaching is complex. As an educator, you are responsible for preparing the future of the dental profession and you may be currently struggling to:

  • Implement evidence-based learning in an engaging way
  • Cultivate a classroom culture of respect and collaboration
  • Improve your interactions with students
  • Support students facing challenges
  • Assess student competency effectively

We understand that the success of your students depends on your success as an educator. To support your professional development and ensure comprehensive student outcomes,
AAL has partnered with Penn Dental Medicine to develop the Fundamentals of Clinical Education (FCE).

At Your Pace Learning

FCE is an at-your-pace program specifically
designed for new clinical faculty, transitioning
private practice practitioners, and oral health
educators.

Developed and vetted by leading experts in the
field, the FCE is comprised of five learning
modules covering fundamental knowledge areas
as well as best practices. Each module utilizes
video, lectures, interviews, simulations, and
assessments to provide comprehensive educator
training.

  • “I found this program to be very insightful.  Its multifaceted content enables the participant to structure clinical dental education by examining its application from both the perspective of the faculty and the student. In today's multicultural/diverse environment, the program provides a pathway for clinical educators to bridge the gap between themselves and today's students.”

Gary J. Lucci, D.M.D., Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor, ASOD-UNC Chapel Hill

  • “This was a great course for anyone starting to get into the academic world of dental schools or transitioning from part time to full time. I only wish this were available many years ago when I became an adjunct faculty. Now that I have recently transitioned to full time faculty, I found it exceptionally helpful in recognizing the hierarchy of the schools and the learning styles of the students in much more depth.”

    D. Kent Moberly, DMD, Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Comprehensive Oral Health, UNC Adams School of Dentistry

WHY ONBOARD

Transitioning and new clinical faculty usually have little understanding about how to teach and how to work within the academic environment. The FCE is an essential tool for onboarding new clinical faculty so that they apply teaching fundamentals and understand the differences between the educational environment and private practice.

The FCE is a comprehensive, cost-effective solution for giving new clinical faculty the knowledge and skills they need to succeed as effective educators.
