Linda Degutis, Dr.P.H., M.S.N.

Dr. Degutis is a Consultant for AAL who works extensively in the areas of public health, injury and violence prevention, leadership, mentoring, advocacy, and the media.

In addition to her work with AAL, Dr. Degutis is Executive Director of Defense Health Horizons (DHH), based at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences, and Chief Science Officer for The Avielle Foundation and Adjunct Professor at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta. She is the former Director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to joining CDC, Dr. Degutis was Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, and Research Director for the Yale Department of Emergency Medicine. She held a joint appointment in the Division of Environmental Health at the Yale School of Public Health and was Director of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness. She served as a faculty mentor for Project MAINSTREAM, a joint program of the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Dr. Degutis serves on the editorial boards of the journals Injury Prevention, Injury Epidemiology, and Public Health. In addition, she is Associate Editor for the journal Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness. She is a member of the advisory board of the College of Sciences and Health at De Paul University and the boards of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) and the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR). She served two terms on the advisory board of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship Program. She was Chair of the executive board of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and is a Past President of APHA.

Dr. Degutis obtained her bachelor’s degree from De Paul University, her master’s from Yale Graduate School of Nursing, and her doctorate from Yale University. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow and member of the National Academy of Medicine.
