Elizabeth S. Pilcher, DMD

Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Pilcher is Professor Emerita in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitative Science in the College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She retired from the position of Senior Associate Dean and Professor in July 2023. She received her BS from the College of Charleston and her DMD from MUSC and Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. She has had over 30 years’ experience in undergraduate dental education, administration and in clinical care, including 8 years in public health dentistry. She has had experience in grant administration in the fields of distance learning, web-based education and the clinical care of persons with special needs She was co-PI on a Duke Endowment grant to develop a web-based resource for dental care in SC for persons with special needs, and Co-PI on a grant to develop an Interprofessional rotation in the Special Health Care needs at MUSC. Dr. Pilcher served as Director of Strategic Planning at the university level for MUSC from 2010-2015 and at the College of Dental Medicine from 2008 to 2023. She has also served as an independent consultant for strategic planning for private groups. She currently maintains a part-time intramural clinical practice at MUSC.
