The Academic Leadership for Residents program is a hands-on internship for residents in advanced education programs, designed to impart productive guidance methods and constructive management techniques for a resident's future success in academic settings.

Academic Leadership for Residents

The ALR program is a competency-based course that helps residents develop the essential knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors consistent among academic leaders.

In addition to the exchange of information, the experience provides rich interprofessional relationship-building and networking opportunities.

Providing exceptional quality training, the program will challenge residents’ assumptions about academic careers and expand their horizons with a focus on these objectives:

  1. Acquire knowledge and skills vital for academic leadership
  2. Enhance capacity for teaching and learning
  3. Develop research skills

Dates

Phase I: September 14-16, 2019 (Atlanta, GA)
Phase II: February 8-10, 2020 (Las Vegas, NV)

Cost

Tuition: $1,000 (Tuition payment is not required to submit an application, but it is due upon acceptance to the program.)

To enroll in the program and for scholarship consideration, interested residents should click the “Register” button to begin the application process. In addition to a completed application, other requirements are a current resume or CV, recommendation letter from the applicant’s program director, and an essay about the resident’s interest in academia and career goals.
