Monty MacNeil, DDS, MDentSc

Dr. MacNeil is a Senior Consultant for AAL and works in the areas of institutional strategic planning and assessment, the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accreditation process and in analyses of program feasibility. Dr. MacNeil is Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Dental Medicine. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University and a Certificate in Periodontology and Master of Dental Science degree from UConn. He has held academic positions at Dalhousie University, Indiana University, the University of Michigan, and UConn.

Dr. MacNeil has published widely in both basic & clinical research and in education methodology, the latter focusing on student assessment and models for clinical education. At UConn, he served three terms as Dean, preceded by eight years as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. MacNeil has served as a consultant on curriculum to CODA, Chair of the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Instrumental in the founding of the Coalition for Modernizing Dental Licensure, he continues to serve on its Executive Committee. Dr. MacNeil’s contributions to dental education have been recognized by many entities including two Citations for Service from ADEA, Distinguished Alumnus awards from both Dalhousie University and UConn and the highest honor of the Connecticut State Dental Association, the Fones Medal.
