PROGRAM DETAILS & OBJECTIVES

This 2-day program is designed to prepare new or incoming directors from all advanced dental education programs for the different leadership, administration, teaching, and mentoring challenges they encounter while serving in their roles. LEAP, executed by experienced past and present program directors, academic executives, and leadership consultants, will address various aspects of the program director’s roles and responsibilities and provide useful tools, skills and procedures that can be immediately applied to any advanced program.

Program Faculty

N. Karl Haden, Ph.D., is President and CEO of AAL. He oversees ongoing leadership development initiatives for numerous organizations, including the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Education Association, the Dental Trade Alliance, and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. Dr. Haden is a Fellow (Hon.) of the American College of Dentists and a Fellow of the Center for the Study of the Great Ideas.

Jacob K. Stern, DMD, M.Sc, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Currently, he is an Associate Professor, in Periodontics at the Dental College of Georgia (DCG), Augusta University (AU) where he served as program director for the advanced education in Periodontics. In addition to his faculty practice, Dr. Stern serves as a consultant for the Ronald Goldstein Esthetic Implant Center at AU and for the VA Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.skills and procedures that can be immediately applied to any advanced program.

Carol Lefebvre, DDS, MA, is the Dean and Professor of Prosthodontics at The Dental College of Georgia (DCG) at Augusta University. She oversaw the planning and design of the new Dental College of Georgia facility which opened in 2011. Dr. Lefebvre served as Editor-in-Chief for The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry for nine years after serving four years as the Associate Editor. The American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics honored her by naming their Scientific Poster Award after her in honor of her tenure as Editor.

Ceib Phillips, Ph.D., is a Professor in the UNC-Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry. She received her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin and her Master of Public Health degree in Biostatistics from UNC-Chapel Hill. She joined the University’s faculty in 1978. Dr. Phillips is the program director for the Oral & Craniofacial Biomedicine PhD program and the Associate Dean for Advanced Dental Education & Graduate Studies. As Associate Dean, she is responsible for the oversight of 11 advanced dental education accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
