The Institute for Teaching and Learning, or ITL, is a four-day, onsite program that imparts the skills of a master educator with the benefit of an enhanced post-program experience. In addition to learning from award-winning ITL instructors, participants will network with dozens of colleagues from across the U.S., Canada, and from around the globe.
This innovative program provides hours of intensive, immediately applicable learning to professionals of all levels, including early career faculty, private practitioners transitioning into dental education careers, and experienced faculty looking to sharpen their teaching skills. Using a combination of methods such as class discussions, small group projects, and self-directed coursework, the ITL allows for eligibility into a six-month Beyond-the-ITL experience, a distance learning activity designed to stimulate ideas learned through the experience and identify strategies for institutional contributions. Those who complete the program will receive an AAL Institute for Teaching and Learning Certificate.
ITL COURSEWORK INCLUDES:
- Effective clinical teaching strategies
- Instructional course design
- Developing rubrics
- Shaping a teaching philosophy
- Calibrating skill-based performance
- Optional continuing education credits, available for a variety of disciplines
